The winning team
Sonita Morin Abrahams (third from right, front row), executive director of RISE Life Management, and her team of senior youth development officers are all smiles following their receipt of the Prime Minister’s Youth Award in December last year. The Kingston-based non-governmental organisation was given the award in recognition of its comprehensive service offerings to at-risk adolescents and young adults from the capital’s inner city. Included in the offerings at RISE are remedial education, life and parenting skills training, HEART/NTA accredited vocational skills training, youth empowerment programmes, school-based programmes for the prevention and treatment of problem-gambling and substance abuse, and counselling for addictive disorders.
