Right move
Dear Editor,
Since its construction the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium has been underutilised. It has just been sitting there like a white elephant, and those who thought it would have generated employment and revenue for the parish have been sorely disappointed.
When the ICC Opening Ceremony was staged, it was a magnificent display and showed how we could put the stadium to good use, if not just for sporting activities.
I was happy to hear that the JAMAICA Jazz and Blues festival will be moved to the parish of Trelawny, specifically the stadium. The event will bring in much-needed revenue and provide employment for many living in the surrounding environs. The citizens will certainly benefit from the massive exposure and publicity that this event will bring.
At a time when hotels are complaining of low occupancy levels, the festival is sure to create some demand for rooms over this period.
I must commend the Ministry of Culture and the organisers of the festival for coming to this agreement, as I believe it is the most ideal venue for the grand showcase.
I am sure that jazz patrons will have an extraordinary experience sitting under the stars and enjoying the great ambiance of Greenfield. I wish the organisers every success and hope that this new home will be a permanent one.
