The hottest corner in hell awaits them
Dear Editor,
What didn’t happen in 200 years happened on January 12, 2010. The earthquake is a culmination of a series of terrible incidents in Haiti, starting with the undemocratic deposition of Haiti’s president to be replaced by a puppet, then four hurricanes struck killing hundreds, damaging buildings, industries and crops. And now the big one – 7.0 on the Richter scale levelling the capital Port- au-Prince, including schools, churches, hospitals, prisons and even part of the ornate and ostentatious presidential palace poised in the midst of poverty.
The President of the United States, in the midst of sabotage – in-house and on the other side of the political divide – was very passionate and statesman-like in setting a sombre and purpose-driven tone for America and the rest of the world to chart, in an effort to alleviate the suffering. The response to the clarion call was spontaneous. It is refreshing to see the peoples of the world behaving like civilised human beings manifesting their awareness that we all are of the same race – the human race.
The real enemies of the US are those displaying uncivilised behaviour – not unlike inhumane robots programmed to be divisive and are so racist and illiterate – that people like Limbaugh, rush in where literate racists fear to tread and Pat Robertson trying to use God as a “cosmic bellhop” (Martin Luther King). And as Bob Marley said, “Let them pass all their dirty remarks; is there a place for these hopeless sinners who have hurt all mankind to push their agenda?”
The hottest corner in hell is still being heated for their arrival. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” It seems Robertson is oblivious of this, hence Christianity is getting a bad name, not unlike missionaries who own the commanding heights of the economy in Africa, and the Africans the Bible, and we wonder why so many people in the world are ambivalent of our values.
The uncivilised utterances of Limbaugh and Robertson make human blood curdle, and the only thing that is worse is the silence of much of the press in condemnation of this verbal barbarism in the untold human tragedy. Those who maintain their neutrality and silence in times of moral crises, the hottest corner in hell is indeed reserved for them.
