The Golden Cleats Feast

The Inaugural Golden Cleats Awards staged by the Scotiabank Group and The Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association took place Friday, January 8, 2010 at Jamaica House. Guests were once again given the opportunity to laud the achievements of our athletes and contribute to their further development. The aim is to raise $1.5 million for equipment needed by the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA).

The evening unveiled many highlights: the Laura Facey-designed Golden Cleats Awards, the awards to athletes of the year Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser as well as coach Glen Mills. There was too, an elegant dining experience in an ambience created by Sharon Thomas and coordinated by Stephanie Scott.

The Culinary Federation of Jamaica presented the evening’s fare while wine experts Debra Taylor of Lascelles Wines and Spirits, Chris Reckord of Molasses/Bin 26 Wine Bar and Paul Hanworth of 1876 Wines paired the wines.

The Main Course – Vanilla and Coriander Smoked Beef Sorrel, Hibiscus and Rose Pepper Jelly Coconut, Saffron and Cilantro Poached Lobster Yam, Dasheen and Pumpkin Cake was presented by Martin Maginley, executive chef, Round Hill Hotel and Villas. It took some of our country’s top executive chefs and their assistants to execute dinner for the Inaugural Golden Cleats Awards. The wines were presented by Lascelles Wines and Spirits’ Debra Taylor (not in photo), Jamaica Observer’s Chris Reckord and 1876 Wines’ Paul Hanworth.

The appetiser presented by Ravi Anne, chef-de-cuisine Sugar Mill Restaurant, Half Moon Resort, comprised: snapper and pomegranate ceviche, papaya, breadfruit and eggplant timbale, cassava shingles and organic greens. This was paired with Babich, Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand, 2007 from Lascelles Wines and Spirits and presented by Debra Taylor.
