Ireland football champs meet Bolt on visit
A day after copping the JAAA Male Athlete of the Year Award, the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, joined Digicel in hosting the All-Ireland football champions, Kerry, to a day of fun activities at Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios last Saturday to end their week-long trip to the island.
Digicel invited the Kerry footballers to spend the last day of the trip with Bolt at the Adventure Park in Ocho Rios, where the team showed him how to play one of the fastest team sports in the world.
Digicel, which has sponsored Bolt since 2004, wanted to do something special for the visiting team and was delighted to be able to bring its star athlete and Digicel Ambassador out to meet the All-Ireland champions.
Following the afternoon spent with Bolt, Kerry captain Darren O’Sullivan said: “This has been a fantastic end to our trip to Jamaica and I’d like to thank Digicel for organising this.
“Usain Bolt is a superstar athlete and having the opportunity to spend the day with him and getting to know him has been incredible. We even managed to get him into a Kerry jersey and teach him a few of the basics of Gaelic football.”
Senator Norman Grant, managing director and CEO, Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, presented JABLUM coffee to the team and Bolt and said: “It is a pleasure to partner with Usain Bolt and Digicel to welcome the Kerry football team to Jamaica.
“Our presentation of JABLUM coffee is to ensure that you take a little piece of Jamaica back to Ireland, because you can be assured that we are looking to aggressively diversify our coffee export to include Ireland.”
Digicel Jamaica CEO, Mark Linehan, said: “We were delighted to see the Kerry football team in Jamaica this week to celebrate winning the All-Ireland Football Championship.”
Gaelic football is a form of football played mainly in Ireland. It is one of the most popular spectator sports in the country and is one of the fastest team sports in the world.
