Flexxing with: D’Angel
MOTHER, artiste and entrepreneur are just a few titles held by this female powerhouse. “Sometimes I wonder how I do it,” says D’Angel, whose hectic schedule is managed with the help of a 24-hour nanny, a strong family support unit and constant organisation in her daily routine.
“Everything I do is scheduled. Sometimes things do randomly come up, but I try to make it work,” she further commented.
Last year was a good year for the artiste who has resolved that for the New Year she will continue to work hard and stay focused. She currently has a new video out entitled My Life along with singles such as Hot Gyal A Road and a collaboration with Mr Vegas called Good Life produced by DJ Sunshine.
“I also just finished writing a song, I’ll Be Your Angel, for my son Marco-Dean,” boasts the artiste, who prides herself as being a devoted mother. She has been working with several producers including Ballaz Production, Sean-Izzle, Mafia McKoy, Flava Squad, Sons of Spoon Records and a whole host of upcoming producers, seeking to extend her catalogue for 2010.
In a predominantly male industry, one would think that as a female D’Angel would find difficulty in contending with her counterparts to gain grounds in the business, however, this is definitely not the case.
“If you are forceful in what you do, believe in yourself and believe in God, then you can conquer anything as a female artiste, so that you’re no longer even seen as just a female artiste but as an artiste in general,” she told TEENage.
The dancehall has lately transformed into a dramatic theatre of unfriendly relations among some ladies in the business, of which we asked her opinion. “That is not my thing from day one. That’s just for the hype, it will subside momentarily,” she stated while further adding, “those things hold you back rather than push you forward. Even to reply to an artiste takes up energy.” She advices TEENs, especially young ladies who intend on joining the dancehall fraternity, to “establish your talent, love what you do, be prepared for hard work, believe in yourself and put your everything in what you do. Also, use your raw talent and don’t let anyone convince you to do anything lewd in establishing your career”. Wise words from a female who has risen above the many obstacles she has been faced with for the several years she has been in the industry. She encourages her fans to continue supporting her in her endeavours for 2010.
