Give good music a chance
Dear Editor,
For the past couple of years the music business in Jamaica has been in a slump caused by “bad mind” and the one-sided mentality that a lot of the soundmen are promoting these days.
In a country where we produce so many records per week, how is it that only two sets of artistes are getting played when we have such a vast variety?
We need to look into that if the industry is to move forward in 2010.
Good music should be played no matter who sings or produces it and despite popular beliefs, this whole Gully and Gaza thing is played out.
A lot of people are tired of going out to hear the same thing every day, so certain shows are not getting the crowd that they used to in the past years. This is not a plus for the industry because low turnouts mean fewer shows and fewer shows mean less or no money for a lot of people. So we need to look into ourselves this year and make a change, not only for ourselves but for the millions of people across the world who love our music. The future of dancehall music depends on it.
