Laylor strikes twice for leaders Cavaliers
CAVALIER returned to the summit of the Claro/KSAFA Super League after a double strike from veteran David Laylor saw them to a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Maverley/Hughenden yesterday.
In other games, Rae Town played to a 0-0 draw with Real Mona; Mountain View slammed Constant Spring 4-1; Santos clipped Barbican 1-0; JDF and Bull Bay battled to a 2-2 draw, while the game between Duhaney Park and Meadhaven was not played because of an unprepared field.
At Maverley Park, Laylor netted in the 24th and 65th minutes to push the title-chasers, who move to 34 points, two ahead of Rae Town, who stumbled with after a scoreless draw at Buttercup Park.
Meanwhile, Mountain View (28 points) stayed ahead of Santos in joint third place on goal difference after Troyland Williams scored a hat-trick in their win over title hopefuls Constant Spring at Constant Spring.
Denzil Mitchell scored Constant Spring’s consolation, while an own-goal accounted for Mountain View’s other goal.
At Bell/Chung Oval, Fabian Nethersole got the game’s only goal in the 75th as Santos came away winners against Barbican.
At Up Park Camp, hosts JDF squandered a 2-0 goal lead and had to settle for a point against struggling Bull Bay. Robert Wright (16th) and Garvey Simms (37th) put the soldiers 2-0 up at the break, but late strikes from Andrew Morris (88th) and Bevil Grosset (90th) earned the east-Kingston side a share of the spoils.
However, the point lifted JDF one point clear of Constant Spring on 25 points. Real Mona are next with 21 points, followed by Barbican 16, Bull Bay 12, Duhaney Park seven, Meadhaven six and Maverley/Hughenden four.
In the Major League, Kurt Thomas (35th) scored his second goal in as many matches as Central Kingston defeated Molynes United 1-0 to stay three points clear of Police National at the top.
In other games, Police stopped UWI 1-0; Rockfort turned back Olympic Gardens 3-1; Brown’s Town edged Greenwich Town 2-1; Liguanea beat Whitfield by the same score, while Cooreville stunned Swallowfield 4-0.
At UWI Bowl, Damion Virgo got the game’s lone goal in their win over the home team.
At Cling Cling Oval, Audley Hanson, and own goal and Twaine Winter scored for Rockfort against the hosts. Fabian Francis scored for Olympic Gardens.

Brown’s Town, through a brace from Graeme Green, clipped Greenwich 2-1. Ricrdon Munro scored Greenwich’s goal.

Central lead the standings with27 points, followed by Police with 24, Rockfort 21, UWI 19, and Greenwich, Whitfield and Brown’s Town on 17 each.
