Clarendon FA Captain’s Bakery Major League begins today
MAY PEN, Clarendon — The Clarendon Football Association will kick off its 2009/2010 season of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill Major League today with a glitzy opening ceremony followed by the first game at the Monymusk Employees Sports Club.
The opening ceremony is slated to begin at 1:30 pm, while the opening game between Milk River United and York Town FC will start at 3:00 pm.
This year’s competition will take on a league format, comprising ten teams who will play each other over two rounds (home and away).
At the end of the first round, the two teams with the most points will meet in the mid-season final where they will play for a cash prize and a trophy, after which the second-round will begin.
At the end of the second round, the team that amasses the most points throughout the duration of the league will be declared the winner — earning the right to represent the parish in next year’s South Central Confederation Super League.
Meanwhile, over $500,000 in prize monies will be up for grabs this year. The winning team will receive $180,000; second-place $120,000; third-place $80,000; fourth-place $40,000.
The mid-season champions will walk away with $50,000, while the Most Disciplined Team will pocket $15,000. The Most Valuable Player and the Top Goal Scorer will get $10,000 each. Additionally, each team will be awarded $1,000 for every game they win.
Teams: Morgan’s Pass FC, Milk River United, Rock River FC, York Town FC, Longwood FC, New Bowens FC, Gayle FC, Sanguinetti FC, Sunnyside FC and Gimme-me-bit FC.
