Champion Sport Club football fiesta returns to Spanish Town today
THE second staging of the Champion Sports Club football extravaganza takes place today at the Rivoli Playing Field (formerly the Rio Cobre Ball Ground) starting at 2:20 pm.
The first game of the football re-union fixture will once again feature the original players of Champion and Rivoli Football Clubs, two arch-rivals in the old capital from the 1970s through to the 1990s. In the second match-up at 4:30 pm, Zipp All Stars from England will face-off with Youth Link Invitational Eleven from Spanish Town. Youth Link Invitational Eleven went down 0-1 to Brixton Empire Crew in the first year’s staging.
Among the leading former stalwarts for Champion, who took top honours last year with a 2-1 over Rivoli, are Dessie Chin, Floyd Morgan, Mark Miller and Duke Williams.
To help Rivoli in their quest for revenge this time around are two former star players in the Kennedy brothers, Winston “Stacka Lee” Kennedy and Michael “Big Yaad” Kennedy.
Meanwhile, highlights of the celebratory after-party session dubbed “Gal Fi Get Money” on the Roof of Cecil’s Restaurant on Martin Street in Spanish Town, will be the guest appearance of Jamaica’s 2009 breakout artiste, G-Whizz.
