Dear Editor,

I predict that, just as it was in the Stanley Kubrick 1984 movie, the sequel to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (based upon the 1953 short story, The Sentinel, by Arthur C Clarke), that this year will bring the first undeniable, absolutely provable facts surrounding the existence of extraterrestrial beings. In other words, a final proof that we are not alone in the universe. Why 2010, you ask? Well, these space aliens, these “beings from somewhere else” if you like, certainly can’t be expected to pass up such an opportunity!

More than that, we will probably not soon know many of the complex details, but only of those few, simple facts. Yet as we think about them and their implications, it will soon be the end of the world as we know it today, the world we knew, and mark the beginning of a new one.

God help us, whether I am right or wrong, we can all agree we badly need a new one now , don’t we?
