Granville march on in Captain’s Bakery Super League
GRANVILLE, St James — Granville United continued their upward move in the points tables of the Captain’s Bakery Western Confederation Super League on Wednesday after scoring 2-1 win over Catherine Hall in a rescheduled first-round game at the Sam Sharpe Teachers College grounds.
Odane Snow and Garth Johnson, who were scoring in their third straight game, kept up the pace with a goal a piece as Granville moved past Frome FC on goal difference into third place.
Granville are on 15 points from eight games, same as Frome who have played a game less, trailing leaders Reno (20 points) and Seba United who are on 17 points after playing to a 0-0 draw against Mt Pelier in another rescheduled game on Tuesday.
This was also Granville’s second straight 2-1 win over Catherine hall after beating them by the same margin in the semi-finals of the St James Knock-out three weeks ago.
Snow gave Granville the lead after just three minutes, but they had to wait until the 52nd minute when Johnson doubled the scores.
Catherine Hall had looked more purposeful at the start of the second half and should have equalised in the 48th when Ricardo Clarke’s header from close range beat goalkeeper Everett Nunez but came back off the crossbar.
They got their only goal of the game when Carl Henry scored in the 85th minute.
