Sporting draw stalls Boys’ Town’s final push
End-of-round final contenders Boys’ Town played to a pulsating scoreless draw with Sporting Central Academy in their Digicel Premier League game at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
The result left Boys’ Town coach, Andrew Price, hopping mad at his team’s inability to create better scoring opportunities from their industry.
“We played well in parts but did not think we really created much chances from our play and the few half chances that came our way we were not clinical enough in front of goal. We did not attack the box with enough conviction to really get a positive result,” he mourned.
Sporting Central Academy, after losing for the first time in the round against leaders Waterhouse on Sunday, were happy to salvage a draw from a game that they should have won but were prevented from doing so due to another inept performance in front of goal by striker Oneke Ford.
Ford who probably cost his team victory against Waterhouse on Sunday by failing to score from a one-on-one situation in the six-yard box at the start of the second half and repeated the error in the first-minute of play by booting the ball high over the crossbar from a similar distance with only goalkeeper kirk Porter to beat.
Sensing danger from a team which always play well at Collie Smith Drive, Boys’ Town increased their tempo which threw off the visitors from their slick passing which turned the game into a frantic melee with each team not giving the other much room for manoeuvre.
Sporting Central coach Nigel Stewart was happy with the point but thought “we played well again to came away with full points”.
