JCDC invites entries for 2010 competitions
ENTRIES for the 2010 Festival of the Arts competitions, including the performing and entertainment arts, organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) are now being accepted.
Individuals, schools and community groups who wish to enter the Performing Arts competitions in dance, music, drama, traditional folk forms and speech as well as the National Children’s Gospel Competition must do so by Friday, January 29. The deadline for entries for the Entertainment arts, which include the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, the Jamaica Festival Song Competition and the Jamaica Gospel Song will be Friday, February 26.
Young women, aged 18-25, are invited to participate in the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, while established and aspiring artistes are being encouraged to enter the Jamaica Gospel and Festival Song Competitions. Entries for the other programmes, including the National Visual Arts Competition, the Culinary Arts Competition and the Jamaica Creative Writing Competition will be invited later in the year.
“We want to encourage persons to develop and showcase their talent though the various competitions we offer,” said Dorrett Thaxter, JCDC Programme Director. “Persons particularly from community and other groups are being targeted for entries as we continue to expand the scope and widen involvement in the competitions” Thaxter also noted.
Over 8000 entries were received across all competitions organised by the JCDC in 2009. Entry forms for the 2010 competitions, along with the relevant rules are available at the JCDC offices islandwide or online at www.jcdc.org.jm.
