Teams battle for lead in WFA League
PETERSFIELD, Westmoreland — The lead in Zone B of the Captain’s Bakery-sponsored Westmoreland Football Association’s Major League is up for grabs today with two games involving two top teams.
Leaders Savannah FC and Negril FC both on four points will face Westmoreland Police Youth Club (WPYC) and Paul Island respectively, both on three points each.
WPYC and Savannah will meet at the Bay Road Complex while Paul Island and Negril will meet at Belle Isle.
The Police team will be seeking back-to-back wins in three days after opening their account on Monday with a 2-1 win over promoted Western Sports Academy at the Petersfield Community Centre.
Paul Island will also be seeking to maintain their perfect-win record after winning their first game.
On Monday, Okang Rose scored twice in the second half for WPYC who had their games over the Christmas period suspended as a number of their players were called on to carry out extra duties as police officers.
Rose scored the first goal on the 56th minute but Orlando Barnes equalised for Western Sports in the 75th minute.
However, Rose restored his team’s advantage a minute later to give them maximum points.
Savanah FC took over the lead in Zone B after scoring their first win, a 2-0 margin over Chantilly Gardens at Llandilo to move to four points from three games, edging Negril on goal difference.
WPYC, Chantilly Gardens and Paul Island are all on three points.
In the Zone A top of the zone clash, leaders Mt Grace dropped their first points of the season after they were held 1-1 by Russia at Blackness Oval.
Mt Grace still leads on seven points from three games, one more than Russia who has played four games, while Extra Flexx comes next with four points.
