J’can trainer Nunes lands two winners in Barbados
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Jamaican trainer Andrew Nunes picked up two wins on Saturday at the Garrison Savannah racetrack but champion trainer Robert Peirce grabbed the main event on the nine-race card.
Peirce’s four-year-old colt Show me the Money captured the Patrick Husbands BSS Handicap, the richest event on the Hall of Fame card.
Ridden by champion jockey Andy Ward, Show me the Money won the BAR$15,000 (US$7,500) Patrick Husbands feature by a short head in one minute, 51.40 seconds for Peirce and champion owners Clifton Racing.
Bird Watch finished second and Don Portalsonny third.
Nunes claimed his wins in the third and sixth races with Rock Stone and Pretty in Red, respectively, both with former champion jockey Andy Trotman aboard.
Rock Stone won the BAR$12,000 (US$6,000) third race over 5-1/2 furlongs for owner Sir Charles Williams by 1-1/2 lengths in one minute 06.60 seconds.
Nunes landed the BAR$12,000 (US$6,000) sixth race over nine furlongs when his four-year-old chestnut filly Pretty in Red carried Trotman to victory by two lengths in 1:54.60 seconds.
Ned Kelly was second and Batista third.
Jamaican jockey Richard Lunan was also a winner on the card, scoring in the US$12,000 (US$6,000) ninth race over 5-1/2 furlongs with Bloumberg.
Trained by Victor Cheeseman, the grey colt won in 1:05.60 by half length, chased by Dark Knight, with I’mjusttoomuch was third.
