Reno tackle Frome in Confed derby
FROME, Westmoreland — Leaders Reno FC could extend their advantage in the Captain’s Bakery Western Confed Super League today when they take on Frome in a big Westmoreland derby at Frome, starting at 3:00 pm.
While Reno (19 points from seven games) will be seeking their seventh win from eight starts, second-placed Seba United (16 points from six games) will be idle as their game against fourth placed Bamboo (14 points) has been postponed.
The postponement came as a request from the Hanover FA, Copeland Bailey, chairman of the competitions committee and assistant general secretary of the Western Confederation told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
Bamboo and Mt Pelier, who were down to face Exidos are meeting in the final of the Hanover FA Knock-out this afternoon to decide who will take part in the JFF Flow Champions Cup all-island KO later this year.
Both Bamboo and Mt Pelier missed their previous Super League game after one of the teams failed to show for a meeting with the Disciplinary Committed after their December 13 game at Bamboo was disrupted by a crowd invasion with less than two minutes to go.
Today Reno will start favorites to beat Frome, last season’s beaten finalists, after beating them 2-0 last month in the Westmoreland FA KO final at the same venue.
Martin Williams, Davian Thorpe, Tremaine Perry, Fabian Blake and Evon Taylor should lead the Reno attack against a Frome team that has only given up three goals so far.
Adrian Robinson is the key player for Frome, and along with Delano Rankine and Damion Green, will be gunning to slow down Reno’s run.
Reno’s 14 goals scored so far is also tops in the competition, just ahead of Granville who has scored 13 from six games.
At Sam Sharpe Teachers College, Granville who are coming off a an away 3-0 win over Petersfield will be up against defending champions Wadadah who have struggled all season and are in second to last place on three points.
Granville also had their struggles early but have forced their way out of the bottom of the point’s tables and are in fifth place and within striking distance of the leaders.
Granville will also be buoyed by their recent win over Seba United in the St James FA Captain’s Bakery Knock out finals and will hope Garth Johnson and Dwayne Snow can repeat their performances today.
Granville beat Wadadah twice last season, 2-0 in the first round then got a 3-0 decision in the board room in their return round after Wadadah had used an ineligible player against them and will be seeking a third straight win against the defending champions today.
