My Kingston
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
My earliest memory of Kingston was a trip with my wife Lisa Goldson. I am an eternal student of the African Diaspora, so the drive from the Norman Manley International Airport, passing through Windward Road, Mountain View Avenue, New Kingston and finally Cherry Gardens showed me Kingston’s rich diversity in 30 minutes.
What do you miss when you are not in Kingston?
Hands down… Pay parties. I travel a lot and we usually find a great local restaurant to soak up the culture, grab a few drinks, then find a club to party. Once we do, we end up buying a table in a smoky club where the music might or might not be good, or worse trying to hail down a bartender for most of the night. Pay parties have the right formula: great music I love, Jamaican food, and no waiting for drinks.
What are your favourite home comforts?
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and Kingston is my second home. That said I love fresh fish. It’s all I want to eat when I’m here in Kingston, but I can’t choose between escoveitch, brown-stew, and roast fish.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
I’d declare it a city-wide community service day; give everyone the day off with pay and send out 100 trucks with materials to fix all of the city’s potholes. We’d call it “Pothole no more day!” And to get your money everyone would have to twitter before-and-after pics.
Share with us the title of the last book you read.
It’s a book I borrowed from a local movie director (Ras Kassa)…called Emotional Structure: A Guide for Screenwriters. It’s about creating emotional story arcs; marketing and advertising is all about story-telling and people in my industry can all learn a thing or two from movie directors.
What’s your middle name?
Antonio.
And the last bit of music that stirred your soul?
It was a four-day tour through my Michael Jackson anthology after watching the This Is It documentary. It is a “must-see” for anyone who loves music… Michael Jackson was brilliant.
What was your last bit of retail therapy?
I found a ceramic Panerai watch (PAM 292 for all you enthusiasts) that I had been looking for at a local watch store.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
I have two that I travel with: Acqua Di Parma and Amalfi Fig; Gucci Envy.
What is your preferred beverage?
Non-Alcoholic: Mate from Chile
Alcohol: Porfidio Anejo Tequila
What upsets you?
People who complain. Most people who complain typically have something in common; they never have suggestions or solutions, so instead of complaining about something like GCT, use the same passion to offer suggestions on how to help the country raise funds to pay back the IMF. Don’t complain…
Fix it!

I am working with our running team to breathe new and fresh energy into the running category, and Nike basketball to celebrate the world’s two best ballers: Kobe (Bryant) and Lebron (James) through the Most Valuable Puppets www.nikebasketball.com. In addition, I am also helping my brother-in-law (Wayne Goldson) to expand his new local business venture, Wheel Rack. I love young, local talent; we have to develop, support, and promote it!
Name your favourite ‘chill’ spots in the Caribbean.
Jamaica: Little Ochi
St Lucia: Anse Cochon
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Have a local tour guide…preferably someone who can safely take you downtown and then uptown.
What’s your philosophy?
Two words: Carpe diem.
