Cavalier back atop
AFTER losing three points in the boardroom last week, Santos slipped further behind the leaders, losing 0-2 to 10-man Cavalier, who rejoined Rae Town at the top of the standings, following the latter’s surprise 0-4 loss to Constant Spring in the Claro/KSAFA Super League yesterday.
In other games, Mountain View slammed Meadhaven 5-1; Real Mona edged Bull Bay 1-0; JDF beat Barbican 2-1, while Maverley/Hughenden failed to show for their match against Duhaney Park.
At the Spring Complex, Cavalier received an early setback when their leading scorer Locksley Thompson was red-carded after only 10 minutes for a serious foul on an opponent.
However, they took the lead four minutes later when Oneal Morrison set up Fabian Swaby, who fired home from the edge of the area.
Cavalier continued to dominate into the second half and 73 minutes into the match, Donovan Alvaranga made room for himself in the penalty area before slotting the ball past Denzil Isaac, who had advanced off his line.
Cavalier now move into second in the standings with 31 points, behind Rae Town on goal difference.
At Breezy Castle, Constant Spring surprised the leaders as a brace from Gregory Walker and a goal each from Claudious Walker and Andrew Davis saw them humbling the hosts.
Mountain View continued to breathe down the leaders’ necks as they moved into third ahead of Santos on goal difference with their win over Meadhaven at Excelsior High.
Ricardo Reid and Troyland Williams scored two goals apiece and Neville Brown one for Mountain View, while Omari Edwards netted Meadhaven’s consolation.
Garvey Simms scored both goals in the JDF’s win away at Barbican. Simms opened the scoring in the seventh, but Desean Meeks equalised for Barbican before the break.
However, Simms scored again in the 68th to give JDF all three points to stay level with Constant Spring on 24.
At Bull Pen, Jordon Moses’ 59th-minute strike was enough for visiting Real Mona to take maximum points against Bull Bay. The other game between Duhaney Park and Maverley was not played as the latter failed to show.
In the Major League, Central Kingston kept their three-point lead as goals from Kurt Thomas, Wilfred Mitchell and Ricardo Taylor saw them to a 3-0 win over challengers Greenwich Town.
In other matches, Police National beat Whitfield Town 3-0; Brown’s Town outscored UWI 3-2; Liguanea clipped Swallowfield 1-0; Rockfort stopped Molynes 2-1, and Cooreville turned back Olympic Gardens, 5-2.
