Santos, Rockfort feel KSAFA heat
AFTER edging into the lead for the first time this season, albeit on goal difference, Santos lost their place at the summit of the KSAFA Super League following a competition’s committee meeting recently, which saw them being deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player (Dwayne Atkinson) in a match against Rae Town on December 12.
Atkinson was red-carded in the Jackie Bell KO play-off final against Greenwich Town, and should have missed the team’s next game but instead he geared up against Rae Town.
As a result, the Carlton Dennis-coached team, who were tied on 28 points with Rae Town and Cavalier, have now slipped to third on 25 points, while Rae Town have assumed the leadership with 31 points.
Santos are followed in the standings by Mountain View with 22 points, then Constant Spring and JDF with 21 points each.
Meanwhile, Maverley/Hughenden were also fined $5,000 by the committee, after they also used an ineligible player (Chris Dawkins who was suspended) in their 0-6 defeat to Meadhaven.
In the Major League, Rockfort were also punished by the committee, following the premature end to their match against Central Kingston on November 14 at Rockfort.
In that game, the home spectators invaded the field and abused opposing players and match officials after the dismissal of three Rockfort players from the game.
This resulted in Central Kingston being awarded the match by a 3-0 margin, while Rockfort were fined $20,000 for bringing the game into disrepute and their home field banned for the rest of the season.
