Flow with The Real Stream today
THE second meet of the new racing year places a very competitive Overnight Allowance three-year-olds and upward event as the highlight of today’s 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
This is in the absence of a sponsored race but much is in store for punters on the programme including their favourite — the Track Price Plus “Dig Out” Handicap — closing event which begins a new Series of 12 races over the next 12 months.
The Overnight Allowance event brings together a field of 11 that looks open with not less than five runners seeming to be in with a winning shot for the major share of the $715,000 purse. Despite the presence of The Chief, recent winner Coleman’s Rock, First Time Lucky and River Styx, it could prove unwise to oppose The Real Stream.
The David Crawford, Dougal Foster & Vincent Palmer-owned five-year-old roan gelding has been set back by a sesamoid injury which plagued his racing career from a two-year-old. Since then this talented son of He’stherealthing has not lived up to his early promise, but over the past year or so has been showing positive signs of steady recovery.
He ran winless as a four-year-old with some encouraging runs in between. He was not beaten by far in his November 14 run, and although most of his training is done in the equine pool, the former champion two-year-old looks now ready to put his foot on firm ground to continue his winning career.
Prepared by champion conditioner Wayne DaCosta, he can be seen staying with the leaders from his number four draw and getting clear turning for home charging for the win under the subtle handling of the capable Shane Ellis.
If he is defeated, it might come in the form of the Chief. This $1.8 million purchased Deputy’s Report four-year-old colt was run out of it close home on last over 1,000 metres round by a fast finishing Ministerofjustice and should be well tuned to go on to better things in this 1,200 metres dash.
However, the Richard Azan-trained bay colt has failed twice in his last two attempts over the distance but with Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas who knows him well persisting with the ride victory could be in the wings.
