Thank God for life
Dear Editor,
It has indeed been a season of mixed occurrences, a season of excitement, and a season to remember: from the tax rollback from a considerate government, to the PNP’s all-island political ploy, to the American Airlines incident. All in all, Jamaica is the place to be, year-in year-out.
My main focus, however, is on the American Airlines incident which has been dubbed a miracle. Indeed, we are thankful that all the passengers made it safely off that ill-fated flight, and wish a speedy recovery for those who sustained injuries.
One of the things, however, that came out of this experience was the apparent ungrateful attitude of some of the passengers on Flight AA331. It amazed me that of all those who were interviewed, only one of them gave God thanks for His saving grace. Their main acknowledgment on the other hand was to say, “The response teams came on the scene late and they should have been there on time.”
This is, of course, against the background of what both Minister Vaz and Minister Henry disclosed: that the three minutes the response team took to arrive on the scene were within the international standard requirement of four minutes.
I therefore encourage all the passengers to give God thanks for the gift of life and to be more appreciative of the hard work that the security forces and health-care providers rendered.
