Hats off, Ms Howard
Dear Editor,
Just think back to the day before December 22 – we were outcasts of society with the invisible cords which connect us to the units we drive each day. People without feelings, emotions, dreams, purpose or even the ability to think for ourselves. But like a twist of fate and then a miracle we are no longer invisible, and via the most unlikely fall from the heavens, people have started to look at us as people and a part of society. Truth be told, thanks to you all for making us so strong, thank you, a thousand times.
Most of us have attended high schools, even tertiary institutions and have obtained skills, CXCs, certificates and degrees, but we love to be out there meeting people and going to new places while earning our living doing what we do – driving JUTC buses.
We grow your children, we take care of your mothers and fathers in the society who also help to make the country grow. We also face people’s frustration, abuses, scorns and “bad eyes” after their long day at work or school. These are all sometimes taken out on the drivers because “we don’t have any feelings”.
And now, thanks to Annette Howard, “the David in the middle of all us giants”, we are humans and not robots. Thanks for making us more than just bus drivers. Thanks for reminding the nation. Hats off to you, Annette.
