Fulfil Annette’s dream
Dear Editor,
Last week I reflected on an unsung hero of the AA331 crash at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. The JUTC driver’s heroic deed was mentioned on an afternoon radio programme but subsequently I neither saw nor heard any further mention until the front-page story in the December 27 Sunday Observer.
Annette Howard was on the last leg of her route when the American Airlines’ jet overran the runway and crossed the road in front of the bus she was driving. As reported before and subsequently in the paper, she was at that very instant musing aloud about when she would ever get the opportunity to fly in an aeroplane when the unbelievable occurred.
I wish and hope that the US Embassy and American Airlines would come together and make Annette Howard’s dream to fly come true, because that would be a fitting way to say thanks for her bravery. She so quickly helped passengers to a safe haven.
