Batsmen prosper at Chedwin Park
PATIENT half-centuries from Shawn Findlay, Carlton Baugh Jr and Danza Hyatt highlighted the second day’s play of the Jamaica practice match at Chedwin Park to select a 13-man squad to face the Windward Islands on January 8.
Findlay, who made 78 from 151 balls, inclusive of eight fours and a six, shared in a second-wicket stand of 111 with Hyatt, who made an even 50, inclusive of seven fours.
Baugh stroked three fours and a six in his knock of 54 to push David Bernard Jr’s XI to 317 all out at the close of play. Tamar Lambert’s XI should start their second innings today after being bowled out for 153 on the first day.
Leg-spinner Odean Brown took 3-60 off 24 overs and one ball. Pacer Andrew Richardson was particularly impressive in the post-lunch session, dismissing Findlay, caught at slip by Lambert, and then using his searing pace to clean-bowl Bernard Jr with a yorker.
He finished with 2-44 off 18 overs, while left-arm wrist-spinner Andre Dwyer took 2-87 off 18.
Meanwhile, the Jamaican camp suffered a scare when all-rounder Andre Russell had to go off the field with a left shoulder injury after he fell heavily attempting to pull off a spectacular catch.
The 21-year-old then had to have part-time medium pacer Brenton Parchment complete his over just before the tea break after complaining of discomfort in his right knee.
