Shaw trying his best
Dear Editor,
Everyone may agree that Jamaica has grown weary of hearing people who are sympathetic to the cause of the governing party cast blame on the PNP for Jamaica’s economic problems.
However, when the PNP acts in a self-righteous manner, asking for the resignation of the finance minister, then well-thinking Jamaicans need to stand up and remind them of the major role they played in orchestrating the economic ruin of this country.
It is amazing that the members of the PNP think that they have the moral authority to ask for the resignation of Finance Minister Audley Shaw, after the disastrous effect their own
“world-class” finance minister has had on the economy of this country. If the PNP can show one instance in which Minister Shaw acted corruptly, then I will be the first to join in asking for his resignation. But as it is now, that is not the reality.
Minister Shaw is actually trying his best under difficult circumstances to close a deficit in the budget, and at the same time meet IMF requirements.
I agree that the original tax measures proposed were harsh. What angers me, though, is the disingenuous attitude of some members of the PNP and their attempt to try to score cheap political points at a time of national crisis – a crisis that they themselves helped to create.
I hope the Jamaican people will see through their charade and judge the PNP on their four terms in office.
