Fashion showcase for Guinness 250th New Year’s Eve
Guinness has long been associated with the dancehall in Jamaica. The staging of events and hosting of talent shows and competitions has been common place for the brand over the years. This New Years Eve, December 31, Guinness will continue its 250th anniversary celebration, with a party to ring in the New Year at Dump Up Beach, Montego Bay.
Along with top quality selecting by Guinness Sounds of Greatness finalists, Bass Odyssey and Sound Trooper, the event will feature a fashion extravaganza that will display some authentic Jamaican and dancehall attire.
Jennifer Williams has become a dynamo in the fashion world since she began designing in 2008. Two of her pieces have been worn by Miss Jamaica contestants this year and she continues to blaze a trail with new and unique pieces each day.
She admits that she is elated about being included in the line up for the Guinness New Years Eve party.
“The Guinness event will be another avenue for me to show off my designs, so I am very happy. I will have swimwear on display,” Williams said.
She admits that she draws inspiration from Sandra Kennedy and Tasha Simone Gordon and hopes to improve her designs and shift from crochet to fabric in the future.
“Most of my outfits are available at Shades of Africa and T&T Fabrics. I definitely want to market my creations more so that people are aware of my work,” she ended.
Tasha Simone Gordon is one of Jennifer’s role models but come Thursday night, the two will work side by side to enthral the second city.
Gordon began designing outfits at a tender age and has established herself among one of the best designers in the dancehall world. She began working for Pulse designing outfits for the models and was encouraged to pursue the path professionally. She currently designs all the outfits for the Guinness hostesses.
“The response from customers to my pieces has been amazing. They always come back for more as my designs are hand sewn and specially made for each individual,” Simone said.
“I have made many dancehall pieces over the years. I feel special to be included as part of the line up for the Guinness event, because Guinness is a top brand,” Simone added.
“I will be using a lot of gold and black in my designs in sync with the Guinness colours. I am used to the pressure that comes with designing and fitting outfits so I’m looking forward to the party,” she ended.
