My Kingston
Omar Azan,
Logistics & Operations Officer for Bashco Trading Company
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
Watching, as a child, people downtown selling everything they possibly could to anyone who would pass by.
What do you miss when you are not in Kingston?
The downtown action! Seriously, there is NO place like downtown, Kingston. There is always something exciting going on, even if it’s just on the streets.
What are your favourite home comforts?
I got this really nice chair from Bashco… Glider/Recliner. I can lose a whole day in that chair…
Playing table tennis (love the game) and playing my trumpet.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
Clean downtown so it was almost spotless, and enforce anti-dumping and littering.
Share with us the title of the last book you read
The last novel? Small Favour by Jim Butcher.
Self Development? The Mastery of Music by Barry Green.
What’s your middle name?
I’ve got two: Saleem and Elias
And the last bit of music that stirred your soul?
I play trumpet in a band here called Black Zebra, and my last “soul-stirrer” was when we played Fragile by Sting.
What was your last bit of retail therapy?
Got myself a new leather trumpet case for my Birthday.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
I alternate depending on my mood, so it’s either Lacoste Essentials or Old Spice Original Scent… I am an Old Spice guy.
What is your preferred beverage?
Soda: Dr Pepper
Juice: Orange
Alcohol: Malibu and Coke.
What upsets you?
People who litter… that REALLY bugs me. It’s so easy to keep things clean and yet people don’t care enough to do it. And random junkies that beg all day for their next fix.

Name your three favourite ‘chill’ spots in the Caribbean.

Trinidad: Movie Towne, Port of Spain.
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Keep your eyes open! There are amazing things to see EVERYWHERE if you pay attention.
What’s your philosophy?
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favour rather than silver and gold (Proverbs 22:1).
