Current woes due to 18 years of PNP mismanagement
Dear Editor,
I have listened to some of the remarks levelled at the Government regarding the recent tax package. Some have called the Government insensitive; Dr Omar Davies has called the Government cruel, while others called the Government wicked and heartless.
Mark you, Jamaica did not suddenly find itself in economic problems since September 2007 when the people of Jamaica rejected Portia Simpson Miller and her Government.
It cannot be argued that since the JLP came to power, Bruce Golding has made such huge mistakes that the country finds itself in deep crisis amidst the economic recession. It cannot be argued that it is because Audley Shaw is minister of finance why the country is in such grave economic turmoil.
Do the PNP and their surrogates expect Jamaicans to believe that Bruce Golding and the JLP created so much debt in two years, so that they are now forced to seek IMF assistance? Do the financial analysts and political commentators really believe that the JLP’s two years in office could right the wrongs of 18 years of PNP mismanagement?
As a country we must seek to understand the realty of the situation and be cognisant that this latest tax package is as a direct result of the distance between the amount of money the Government collects and the amount it is spending. I am sure that this must be one of the demands of the IMF.
