Barnaby pilots Chantilly to opening win
LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland — A hat-trick from Dwayne Barnaby carried Chantilly Gardens to a 3-1 come from behind win over former champions Negril FC at the Bay Road Sports Complex last Wednesday as they opened their season in the Westmoreland Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery Major League.
The win saw Chantilly Gardens join Negril at the top of Zone B, both on three points, but with Chantilly ahead on goal difference.
Ricardo Bourke gave Negril the lead in the fifth minute, but Barnaby levelled the scores with his first goal in the 34th minute and then scored twice in the second half, in the 56th and 73rd, to give his team the three points.
On Monday, Roaring River and Russia played out a 1-1 draw, while Dunbar’s River and Central Westmoreland Athletics Club were goalless in Zone A encounters.
At the Petersfield Community Centre, Kemar Dawkins gave Russia the lead in the 27th, but Conrad Campbell equalised eight minutes later for Roaring River, who were earning their first point as they opened their season.
Roaring River ended the game with 10 players after Garth McLean was sent off after picking up his second yellow card in the 85th.
McLean’s teammate Rohan Smith was also shown the yellow card, while Russia’s Howard Rhoden and Dorian Hurd were also cautioned.
