Big Diva for Sweet Ruckus Trophy
THE $1,000,000 Sweet Ruckus Trophy (Grade 111) event will headline a well supported and competitive 11-race final midweek programme of the season at Caymanas Park today. First post is noon.
Only six runners will face the starter in the 17th running of the Graded Stakes race for native-bred and imported two-year-olds, with the winner looking certain to come from American-bred stablemates Big Diva and Cat For The King, as well as Allaboutcash.
Based on past performances and their preparation, along with the 1,400 metres which they will attempt for the first time, there is little to chose between all three as they are bred to get the trip.
However, with Allaboutcash having already won two of her three races, she seems cherry ripe to go on to continue her winning cycle. Be that as it may, Dig Diva and Cat For A King who have not won since opening their accounts on debut, are also well trained with a view to improving their win records.
Cat For A King, who led for a long way when defeated by Allaboutcash over 1,200 metres on last, was seen rallying after being passed by the eventual winner. Since then trainer Tony Kirlew has stepped up on her preparation at exercise and even though still burdened with top weight of 57.0kg, the dark bay/brown son of Parker’s Storm Cat out of Garnet Mine (Distinctive Pro) will be a more lethal opponent.
Inform jockey Shane Ellis has got the call in place of the two-time Jamaica champion jockey Brian Harding, who will have the leg up on Allaboutcash for trainer Gary Griffiths.
If exercise is anything to go by then stable mate Big Diva, who is yet to win around the bend, looks to be ripened to go all the way.
The Winston McIntosh chestnut filly was not impressive on her debut victory over 600 metres straight, but showed more pluck when finishing ahead of Allaboutcash in her second outing over 1,000 metres round. That race was won by Regal Sensation.
After that encouraging run trainer Kirlew took her to the track and responded in a manner that it should not surprise to see the daughter of Rossini out of Kaszttanka (Ravarano) showing how much she has improved since her last race by going on to triumph.
Luckless Richard Mitchell, who escaped injury from a fall aboard Tracking Device in the fifth race last Saturday after only returning to the saddle following his recovery from a lengthy injury period will ride Big Diva for trainer Kirlew.
