Lions, Sporting meet in Clarendon KO final
It is expected to be a grand affair when Premier League teams Humble Lions FC and Sporting Central Academy meet tomorrow in the final of the Clarendon Football Association Knockout competition at the Effortville Community Centre at 3:00 pm.
In the curtain-raiser at 1:00 pm, Monymusk and Morgan’s Pass will do battle in the third-place play-off to decide who will join Sporting and Humble Lions in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Flow All-Island Knockout Championship.
Humble Lions and Sporting will be playing only for the incentives and bragging rights, as their places in the all-island KO are assured by virtue of them being Premier League teams.
The winners will take home $30,000 in prize money in addition to the KO trophy and winners medal. Second place will be presented with runners-up medals.
Humble Lions, who are the defending champions, will be hunting their third consecutive title at this level and fifth overall after victories in 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008. Sporting on the other hand will be looking for their fourth title after winning three in a row (2004, 2005, 2006).
While it is expected to be a close encounter, Sporting Central should get the better of Humble Lions.
In the Digicel Premier League, Sporting are having a better season than Humble Lions. They are in sixth place on 21 points — six points clear of Humble Lions in 10th place on 15 points.
Additionally, both teams have scored identical number of goals (15), but Humble Lions have conceded more, 24 to Sporting’s 14. Also, in their two meetings this season, Sporting won the first one 3-0, while other ended in a 0-0 tie.
