Boys’ Town snatch three points at Lynch Park
BUFF BAY, Portland — Boys’ Town pipped St Georges SC 1-0 courtesy of a 92nd-minute strike by substitute Oneil McDonald in their Digicel Premier League game at Lynch Park here on Sunday.
Under slippery conditions, both teams found the going difficult in the early stages but that did not sap the offensive appetite of Boys’ Town, who attacked through Shane Edwards, Romondo Johnson and Michael Campbell.
But it was the home team that had the first telling move on goal when Damion Harwood combined with Donovan Davis, though the former’s final effort was off target.
In the second half, the teams launched a number of raids looking for the go-ahead goal, but both custodians were in no mood to give up anything.
But a breach occurred when Boys’ Town’s Michael Campbell passed to George Vernal, whose initial shot was blocked by goalkeeper Anthoniel Williams, but the ball rolled wickedly for a lurking McDonald to slot home.
Winning coach Andrew Price was happy with the three points. “It was a tough assignment to come here and get three points at Lynch Park. We prepared all week for it and we dug in and fought… O’Neil McDonald came on and he is one of the players you can depend on and he came in the dying moments and gave us the three points and we are happy for that,” he said.
St Georges boss, Braxton Hyre, said “it was a keenly-contested game and we lost concentration and paid for it”.
