Tryall Club bolsters Western Confed teams
TRYALL, Hanover — Tryall Club has come to the assistance of the two Hanover clubs currently taking part in the Captain’s Bakery/Western Confederation Super League by donating $218,000 towards their participation.
The presentation took place at the hotel on Thursday.
Ironically, both teams were involved in an incident at the end of their first-round game last Sunday at Bamboo, when the home crowd invaded the field in protest against a penalty awarded by referee Donat McKenley.
No member of the Hanover Football Association was present at the presentation ceremony.
In a brief address, general manager of Tryall Club, Gerald Giarda, said the hotel “will always give to the community, not for the public relations,” but because they considered the surrounding areas as part of the Tryall community.
Linnell McLean, president of the Western Confederation Super League, was pleased the private sector was getting involved with the teams and called on more entities to play their part, despite the harsh economic climate.
He said a number of clubs taking part in the Super League and other competitions were in serious trouble and urged the clubs to “exhibit good discipline and the best performance at all times to uphold the names of your sponsors”
Lucea’s Mayor Lloyd Hill, who is also president and coach of the Mt Pelier team, underscored the importance of of sports in general, and football in particular, in the day-to-day interaction between residents of different communities and also praised the input of the private sector.
Bamboo, who are in their second season, are presently in fourth place on 13 points from five games, three behind joint leaders Seba United and Reno, both of whom have played one game more, while Mt Pelier are in eighth place on five points.
