Negril, Mt Grace take lead in Major League
LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland — Former champions Negril FC and Mt Grace are the early leaders in their respective groups after opening their Westmoreland FA’s Captain’s Bakery Major League campaign with wins last Thursday.
Both achieved their results with just 10 men after having a player sent off. Richard Burke’s 27th-minute goal was enough for Negril to beat Westmoreland Police Youth Club 1-0 at Bay Road Sports Complex.
Anthony Greaves was, however, sent off in the 73rd minute and will miss Wednesday’s game against Chantilly Gardens at the same venue.
At Little London High, Odane Blake’s 79th-minute strike gave Mt Grace a 1-0 win over Extra Flexx, who are yet to win after two games.
Blake’s goal came 20 minutes after Lance Robertson was sent off.
Mt Grace’s win takes them to the top of Zone A with three points, two more than Russia and Extra Flexx.
Negril lead Zone B also with three points as Paul Island and Western Sports Academy are on a point apiece.
