Call it ‘Man Desk’
Dear Editor,
Once again I want to congratulate Jean Lowrie-Chin for a great article, “Looking out for our men”, on December 14. She continues to bring positive light in what seems to be a time of darkness.
I have one suggestion for the Bureau of Women’s Affairs, and it’s that they rename the desk the “Man Desk” instead of the “Male Desk”. This might seem to be semantics. (I know you appreciate the power of words and language – in the beginning there was only the word.) However, the problem we are facing is that we have too many males and not enough men.
It is good to see that the desk is staffed by a man and I hope there will be other men to help, because only a man can teach a male how to be a man. On the subject of guidance counsellors, it would be beneficial to encourage men to go into the profession. That would be one way to have that early intervention of positive “man influence” in the lives of young boys.
