Academy, Savannah in high-scoring draw
FROME, Westmoreland — Promoted Western Sports Academy and Savannah FC shared six goals in a 3-3 draw at the Frome Sports Club in their opening Zone B game of the Westmoreland FA’s Captain’s Bakery Major League on Wednesday.
The league resumed after a nearly two-week break to sort out a number of administrative problems as well as to redo the fixtures after a number of fields were rejected by the Competitions Committee.
Two games were scheduled to be played Wednesday, but the game between Paul Island and Chantilly Gardens SC set for Belle Isle was not played.
On Wednesday, Western Sports saw a 2-0 advantage turn into a 3-2 deficit before a last-minute goal earned them a point.
Winston Tomlinson in the 36th minute and Rasheed Brown in the 49th scored to give Western Sports the lead, but Savanah hit back with three goals in a 13-minute span to take the lead.
Kirk Samuels scored for Savanah in the 65th, and five minutes later, Michael Lewis drew them level before Kirk Brown gave them the lead in the 78th minute.
Alton Green salvaged a draw for Western Sports when he scored in the 89th minute.
