Havenhill Baptist brings cantata to Emancipation Park
The Havenhill Baptist Church Combined Choirs present their Christmas concert, Gloria: A Christmas Cantata on Monday, December 21at the Emancipation Park in New KIngston.
Annually, Havenhill Baptist Church hosts its Christmas musical at its home, located at 28 Mannings Hill Road, and this year, they explained, will be no different.
“We will be performing Gloria here at our church on Sunday night, December 20 for our members and their families,” said Lennox Deane, choir director at Havenhill Baptist.
“But on Monday, we’ll take the show to the Emancipation Park to spread the message and spirit of Christmas with the rest of our extended family, that is, Jamaica,” he finished.
He also explained that this decision initially stemmed from a “growing” issue. “Every year, the attendance to the cantata performance increases and unfortunately, the church is unable to accommodate all, comfortably, here on the Church ground.
“We also want to reach a wider cross-section of people with our ministry and there would be no other place to do that, but at Emancipation Park,” he also shared.
“We want everyone to come out to an evening of exciting music…well-arranged and well-presented, with the Christmas message,” Deane emphasised. “All are welcomed and the admission is free. We begin at 5:30pm so head to the park, right after work, and enjoy the evening with us.”
Special provision, he said, will be made for the deaf (who congregate at the Park and surrounding areas and who are not normally catered for).
“We have a team of excellent deaf interpreters who will join the choir for the presentation,” he said.
