Dolphin Cove teams with basic school to host fund-raiser
Steer Town Basic School in St Ann, in collaboration with Dolphin Cove Attraction, will be hosting a carol service on Saturday, to raise funds to carry out well needed repairs on the school.
The organisers are looking to raise $500,000 from the event to put up a perimeter fence as well as put in partition to separate classes at the school.
The Steer Town Basic choir will be the main performers although a number of other local choirs and performers are expected to participate.
Executive assistant at Dolphin Cove, Rodger Kerr said the event, which is to be held at Prospects Plantation, will also include a lot of fun and entertainment for the entire family.
“We are going to have Santa Clause and people can pay to get their picture taken and also receive a free gift,” Kerr said. “It’s a charity event so we want people to really come out and support this good cause.”
He said over 120 children are currently housed inside a large room and that none of the five classes are separated. Kerr said the school also needs proper fencing and that part of the proceeds will go towards pulling up a fence.
“We know the economic situation and a lot of people are hesitant about spending money when they don’t have to but the school really needs help,” Kerr said.
The carol service is slated to start 2:00 pm and food and drinks will be on sale.
