August Town lose nerves, Village grab point
JUST needing to keep their nerves in five minutes of time added on, August Town gave up a penalty with seconds remaining for Village United to draw 2-2 in their Digicel Premier League game at the Mona Bowl yesterday.
Akeem Thenstead sent August Town ahead in the fifth minute, in a clear signal that the Calvert Fitzgerald-coached team was hunting victory.
But Cordel Simpson drew Village United level seven minutes later, raising the tempo of the Kevin Thomas-refereed match.
But Village’s goalkeeper Hart brought down Kemel Mullings in the box in the 37th minute for referee Thomas to point to the spot.
August Town’s keeper Devon Haughton stepped up to convert the penalty, to go into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Though August Town had several opportunities to increase their scoreline, they never rose to the occasion and when their goalie Haughton gave up penalty after a dangerous tackle in his area, Village pounced at the chance.
The responsibility was left to Troy Smith, who moved his goal tally to four.
