Marshall on fire!
Xavier Marshall cracked his second hundred on the third day of the final Trial match to select Jamaica’s squad for the first-class domestic season which starts next January.
Marshall, batting for Lambert’s XI, ended the day unbeaten on 110 inclusive of seven fours and nine massive sixes and helped push the score to 201 for six at the close at Melbourne yesterday.
So far, spinners Andre Dwyer with three wickets and Nkruma Bonner with two wickets, have done the most damage.
David Bernard Jr’s XI had earlier started the day on 168 for three, but were crippled by the bowling of nippy medium pacer Shawn Findlay, who took three wickets for 51 runs and legspinner Odean Brown (three for 69) to be bowled out for 283. Marshall also chipped in with his part time spin to grab two late wickets for 14 runs.
Only Bevan Brown with a well played 50 batting at number nine made any significant contribution for Bernard Jr’s XI on day three. Top order batsmen Donavan Pagon and Danza Hyatt had made half centuries, but were dismissed from the previous day’s play.
Team coach Junior Bennett praised Marshall for his milestone but felt the talented batsman’s first innings hundred was more compact. “I think he batted well today (yesterday) and scored back-to-back hundreds. He was extremely positive and struck the ball cleanly. However, there were times in this hundred where he lost concentration and he needs to remain tighter right throughout his innings,” he said.
