Boys’ Town humble Lions
HOME team Boys’ Town eked out a well-fought 2-1 win over 10-man Humble Lions in their Digicel Premier League match-up at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
An own goal in the 17th and an 87th minute poke by midfielder George Vernal propelled the hosts to the lion’s share of the points.
An opportunistic strike by the visitors’ Kevin Mighty restored some respect for Humble Lions who gave a good account of themselves.
If chances won games, then Boys’ Town would have been up by six clear goals, but the home team spurned a multiplicity of simple chances to make their lives hard on the pitch.
A defensive blunder which was the result of a clearance off a right-sided cross gone awry, gave Boys’ Town the ascendancy in the 17th minute before Mighty replied with a well-taken effort in the second half.
Soon afterwards the visitors were down to 10 men when referee Raymond Bogle sent Kirk Duckworth to an early shower for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 31st minute.
Humble Lions’ reply came after one of the many hapless efforts on goal by the Boys’ Town attack which saw Anthony ‘Sausage’ Bennett setting up his teammate with a sublime square.
