W’House, Georges in DPL feature
THE improving Waterhouse and surprise package St Georges will clash in the feature Digicel Premier League (DPL) encounter today at Drewsland.
In the other games, Tivoli Gardens host Sporting Central Academy; Portmore United travel to Village; Arnett Gardens tackle Rivoli United; Boys’ Town meet Humble Lions and Harbour View play August Town.
Waterhouse, riding on the back of a seventh win in their last 10 games, are bubbling with confidence, especially after brushing aside Harbour View 2-0 last Sunday.
The astute Geoffrey Maxwell has this Waterhouse machinery well oiled and full of running and it will take a big performance from St Georges to deny them their eighth victory of the season.
Waterhouse are in fifth on 23 points, while St Georges are third with 29 in what is shaping up to be another close DPL season.
In their first game on September 27, St Georges utilised home advantage at Lynch Park to secure a 2-0 win.
Incidentally, that was Waterhouse’s fifth consecutive loss which triggered the under-fire Maxwell starting to turn things around.
They defeated Arnett Gardens 2-0; Humble Lions 2-1; drew with Portmore United 1-1; clipped Sporting Central Academy 2-1; thrashed August Town 4-1 before losing to Boys’ Town 0-1 to end the first round.
Since then, Waterhouse have edged Rivoli United 1-0, battled to a 1-1 draw with Tivoli Gardens and blanked both Village United and Harbour View, 2-0.
With that kind form, Waterhouse will start favourites to secure yet another win and keep in touch with the leaders.
Meanwhile, champions and league leaders Tivoli Gardens, on 30 points, are favoured to get the better of a Sporting Central unit lying in eighth place on 16 points.
Bot teams battled to a 0-0 draw on September 27 in what was then a top-of-the-table clash. Since then, both have gone in different directions.
Tivoli went clear at the top, while Sporting plunged into mid-table.
Nevertheless, today’s game is expedcted to be another close encounter as the young and talented Sporting Central unit cannot be taken lightly.
Any slip up by Tivoli could see second-placed Harbour View, on 29 points, go top of the league with an expected win over relegation favourites August Town, on 10.
Fourth-placed Boys’ Town, on 23 points, will have their hands full to contain a Humble Lions team lying second from bottom on 12 points.
The Christopher Bender-coached Lions are playing well, but not getting the neccessary results. The skilful Kevin Mighty has not scored since the opening day and with more help from Narado Brown, Zico Herrera, Errol Wilkie and Omar Walters, could surprise Boys’ Town.
Former champions Portmore United, on 20 points and in an unusual sixth spot, have been fairly quiet but should secure their second consecutive win against 10th-placed Village United, on 13 points.
