Digicel Christmas roadshows off to a rocking start
DIGICEL’S Christmas roadshows had its launch with a refreshing morning concert which saw over 4000 people celebrating with the telecoms giant in the middle of Half-Way-Tree.
The company has since taken its Christmas promotion on the road to Portmore, Port Antonio and Linstead and, by their estimate, over 12,000 people from across Jamaica have so far been treated to performances from top Jamaican artistes — as well as credit, T-shirts and cellphones — with thousands more set
to join in the fun in the coming weeks.
According to Digicel Jamaica’s senior sponsorship manager, Shelly-Ann Curran, the the reaction to Digicel’s Christmas roadshows has been phenomenal. “We are very pleased with the huge crowd turnout so far and particularly with the responses to the talent we use on the shows,” said Curran.
Dancehall deejay D’Angel has been the lead performer on all three Digicel roadshows to date.
“D’Angel has been giving stunning performances and the crowd keeps screaming for the refreshing vibes and energy that she brings on stage,” said Curran. She also pointed out that a number of young, upcoming artistes look up to D’Angel for inspiration and that the Digicel Christmas roadshow has given her an opportunity to connect with them directly.
The 2009 Digicel Rising Stars contestants have also been performing on the roadshows. Brown Sugar, Adena, Princess Tia and Moments are among the crowd favourites.
“I am particularly pleased with our Digicel Rising Stars. They are very energetic, charismatic and engaging on stage, and this is a great way for these artistes to connect with the fans who
watched them nightly while they were in the Digicel Rising Stars competition,” Curran commented.
She added, “The fun and excitement will continue this weekend when the show goes to Negril in Westmoreland to coincide with the Digicel-sponsored Reggae Marathon and then on to Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth.”
The Digicel Christmas roadshows continue until December 23 with the final show in Downtown Kingston where Elephant Man is expected to set the crowd ablaze with his performance. Other towns that the roadshows will go to are Annotto Bay, Mandeville, Falmouth, and Montego Bay.
