Tough opener for Girlz at CONCACAF U-20 finals
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala (CMC) — Jamaica will face the toughest possible opener at the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Finals in Guatemala next month when they tackle powerhouse USA.
One of three Caribbean teams in the play-off, Jamaica will meet reigning world champions USA on Thursday, January 21, after the opening Group B match between Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico.
The world qualifying series kicks off the previous day, on January 20, with Cuba playing hosts Guatemala and Canada meeting Costa Rica in Group A
Group A resumes on January 22 with Cuba taking on defending champions Canada and Guatemala playing Costa Rica.
Mexico and Jamaica face off in Group B on January 23 when T&T play the USA.
Costa Rica face Cuba and Guatemala meet Canada on January 24, and group play concludes a day later when Jamaica face Trinidad and Tobago and the USA meet Mexico.
The group winners will play the runners-up from the opposite group on January 28, with the championship and third-place matches set for Saturday, January 30.
The finalists and third-place winner will qualify for next year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Germany July 13 to August 1.
