Clean up police force
Dear Editor,
The resignation of Police Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin shows yet another disturbing crack in the police force. What is the security ministry doing?
The attitude of some members of the police force to Mr Lewin’s resignation is insensitive and uncalled for, especially in a country where crime is steadily on the rise. His comment about corrupt officers in the force is in no way unfounded. All you have to do is read the newspapers or watch the local television news to see the number of officers being charged for corruption and other offences, including murder. How can they protest against his statement when there are cases against police personnel before the courts?
Before all the crime and violence can be stopped, the police force needs some serious overhauling. Superiors also need to admit that there are unscrupulous persons within and clean them out in the best way possible. Then the police can move forward in helping our country regain the peacefulness that it was once known for.
