New strategy
Dear Editor,
The appeal by the minister of national security for Jamaicans to come forward as police officers shows how critical this issue has become.
I have a suggestion which I believe will solve the problem immediately. Why not try a new strategy (that has been suggested but never implemented) by amalgating or drafting some members of the army into the police service, even temporarily? I am aware of the different roles and functions of the police and the military, but procedures can be amended and there must be members in the army that could be trained in the relevant laws and police procedures.
Mexico is using the military to fight against drug cartels. What is stopping us from forming a military/police company to fight against crime permanently?
