Chanderpaul slides in ICC Rankings
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — West Indies batting star Shivnarine Chanderpaul has dipped four places to No eight in the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen following his failure in the first Test against Australia this past weekend.
Chanderpaul, a former World No one, scored just two runs in each innings as West Indies plunged to an innings and 65-run loss at the Gabba.
The left-handed Guyanese, who was fourth in the previous rankings, is the only West Indian among the top 20 batsmen, with his teammates Ramnaresh Sarwan (22nd) and Chris Gayle (28th) the next highest rated Caribbean batsmen.
Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has regained top batting spot after his eighth career century helped India record an innings and 144 run victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test in Kanpur.
Gambhir’s leap pushed the Sri Lanka duo of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara into second and third positions respectively.
Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf is up to fourth, followed by Australia’s Michael Clarke, Younis Khan of Pakistan and South Africa captain Graeme Smith.
Among the bowlers, South African Dale Steyn is No one ahead of Australian Mitchell Johnson is second
while Sri Lanka’s magic spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has dropped to third position.
Muralitharan had slipped in July
from the No one spot for the first time in three years.
There is no West Indian bowler in the top frame with pacers Jerome Taylor (17th) and Fidel Edwards (26th) the only West Indians in the bowling top 30.
There is no change in the ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders with Jacques Kallis of South Africa still on top, stalked by New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori and Australia’s Johnson.
Gayle (7th) and Dwayne Bravo (8th) are the West Indians holding top 10 spots among the all-rounders.
