Magnum search on for new Dancehall King and Queen
“My people, my people, my people!”
With those words one can only know that Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall has returned for another exciting season and Empress was hosting the high energy launch last Tuesday at Indies Pub.
Magnum Kings & Queens takes it on the road again with auditions being held islandwide –Montego Bay, May Pen, Portmore, Ocho Rios and Kingston throughout December and January.
The objective of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall is to discover, encourage and showcase the multifaceted musical talent of aspiring local dancehall artistes. The television show, produced by Real Jam TV, airs for its third season in January 2010 incorporating the dancehall fashion, lifestyle and culture on TVJ with repeats on RETV, media partners of the show for three years. A male and a female will be crowned dancehall royalty and will receive one million dollars each, a single produced by two of the industries elite musical producers and also a music video directed by A-list directors.
This year, the television show introduces its newest judge, Professor Nuts, the well known and respected artiste who was the first to combine comedy, social commentary and music and is well known for his song ,’In A Di Bus’. Professor Nuts not only had the crowd at the launch laughing uncontrollably but also showed his exuberance and excitement about being a part of the show. “Is a nice thing when you can become a part of something to uplift the people and the youths.” Missing this year will be General Degree whose music career has continued to ramp up and is making more demand on his time. Fluffy lady, Ms Kitty will continue to bring her candid and direct input and Skatta continues on with the show as well.
Also new to the show is Lucky Dollar who not only believes in the success of the show but also believes in the impact it has had and continues to have on creating a positive and uplifting dancehall. Kedene Bowen, Branch Manager for Lucky Dollar stores took to the stage at the launch, “This is truly an amazing production and Lucky Dollar is really looking forward to the alliance amongst brands and an extremely high energy show.”
With Magnum celebrating its 10th year –10 long 10 strong — this season promises to have even more energy, more entertainment and more vibes. Gary Dixon, category manager for Lascelles Wines & Spirits says, “We are looking forward to bringing a whole new level to the show this year; with 10 Long 10 Strong at the forefront you can expect great surprises, great performances and our guest judges will also be adding new dimensions to the show.”
