The Art of Vision showcase Saturday at Sovereign Centre
ON Saturday, award-winning photographer, Howard Moo Young, along with special guest artists Viv Logan, Ronnie Chin, Sharon Fox-Mould, Jeffrey Perry, Charl Baker, Ray Jackson, Godfrey Gregory and Lorna Morrison, will be showcasing ‘The Art of Vision’, a one-day exhibition of photography and art for patrons of Sovereign Centre in Liguanea between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.
This according to the management of the shopping complex in a new thrust to bring the appreciation of art to the public who will also have an opportunity to interact with the artists as they shop, visit the food court or after the movies.
Moo Young will not only display some of his new images of photographs, photoart and drawings, but will also have as guests some of Jamaica’s leading portrait, landscape, floral and contemporary fine artists. He has also issued a special invitation to a group of talented young photographers from Southside in downtown, Kingston who took part in the recent 2009 LICK Photo Competition. This event, sponsored by the Grace Staff Community Development Foundation Programme, was judged by Moo Young and Chin.
The judges were so impressed with the winners who captured some outstanding photographs under the theme “bringing good food to life” that they have been invited to exhibit their winning photographs in The Art of Vision at Sovereign Centre. Their stunning images of Coronation Market not only caught the eyes of the judges, but the entire collection of winning photographs have been purchased by the Institute of Jamaica for their permanent archives. The public will get a chance to meet some of these future photojournalists and also an opportunity to view and purchase their pictures, proceeds of which will go towards the continuation of the LICK Programme which started in 2006.
Ronnie Chin, award-winning portrait photographer with over 20 years experience in New York, will exhibit his new portfolio of intimate images of personalities, including individuals, couples, families and children. He is a trained professional who creates memories into masterpieces in the privacy of your home, office or outdoors, printed on archival paper or canvas in any size.
One of Moo Young’s special guests is award-winning artiste Viv Logan, who has established herself as one of Jamaica’s premier portraitists and who is in a class all her own. She will be displaying her most recent commissioned portrait, alongside the subject in person. Logan, through her paintings, has established herself as a master of portraiture.
Also known for his realistic live charcoal portrait drawings is Jeffrey Perry, another guest artist who has been busy making a name for himself over the last six years on the North Coast. Jeffrey will be doing ‘live’ portrait drawings for the day.
Joining him will be another portrait artist, Ray Jackson, who has over 28 years of experience in fine arts. His work has been exhibited both locally and internationally and has received several top medals in the JCDC National Festival of Arts Festival and Exhibition. He will also be doing ‘live’ portraits in pencil.
Another exhibitor, Sharon Fox-Mould, who admits, “My art is evolving into utilitarian art,” has introduced designer mats and coasters to her product line, along with hand-painted table tops. Canadian-trained designer and artist, Charl Baker, has developed a style and technique all her own. She will be showing her well-known ‘Trees of Life’ which are formed and fashioned out of wire, then combined with acrylic paintings and have been well received both locally and abroad. Another award-winning nature photographer, Godfrey Gregory whose love for flowers, butterflies, bees and other tiny creations of God, has inspired him, will also be showing.
Lorna Morrison, who spends many hours exploring Jamaica’s beaches and river banks, and who has the keen eyes of a photographer, creates by hand exquisite local jewellery made from natural stones, seashells, egg shells and driftwood to be worn by lovers of nature.
Admission is free and all art will be on sale.
